Pickin’ @ Priddy’s
Founded in 1888 Priddy’s general store is a place of pilgrimage for those living in Stokes County and surrounding areas. Step into a nineteenth and early twentieth century environment with your twenty first century shoes. “Authentic and a little bit of everything” for sure.
You stroll the isles on the well-worn creaking wooden floors and find your childhood tasty favorites.
Every Saturday in October Priddy’s general store
sponsors an outdoor event of home cookin’ and bluegrass pickin’. Out back of the store is a small stage and dance floor. Just bring a folding chair, dancing shoes and be transported back to a simpler, slower time, when the food was tastier the drinks and candy sweeter, the folks friendlier and the music melodious and toe tapping.
This Saturday had an auction for charity with home made items like apple butter, fried apple pies, pound cake, blackberry cider, runner beans, Jams, Jellies and two signed photo’s of Smokey the Bear in front of Priddy’s store (taken by yours truly).
The music is fast and the
dancers are working up a sweat, the sun is shinning and settling low in the west to make a fine fall day. An open fire with a slow boiling crock-pot is smoking and steaming, kids are running and climbing trees. Friends are catching up, honey bees are collecting the last nectar of the season and Jane Priddy Charleville is the perfect host on a perfect Pickin’ at Priddy’s day…
