Raven Knob

It’s been awhile since my last post and I think that reflects a lack of picking up my camera and removing the lens cap. While I  tell others the only way to learn photography is to DO PHOTOGRAPHY I have had a very hard time putting that into practice lately. Life gets in the way… but only if you let it is my realization AGAIN.

At this point in my life photography is a reward like R and R and one I need  more often. I used to think that photography had to be about taking great shots every time (and I guess in theory that still holds) but if one is not pressing the shutter one is not learning anything and certainly not enjoying the trill of chasing that perfect “image”.

So while contemplating this pithy subject I decided to take an evening off and go take that lens cap off and fire away. I headed  deep into the foothills (Piedmont) of North Carolina and Surrey County. Camp Raven Knob has to be one of the most scenic and peaceful camps in all the wonderful Boy Scout Camps in America.

It’s Wednesday evening and that is the Order of the Arrow night of dancing and indoctrination of new boys into the order. It is always interesting to see the boys dress-up in Native American outfits that they make themselves in many cases and integrate the Indian cultural of singing and dance into Boy Scouts of America. This year seems extra special for the boys as it is 100 years since the BSA program began in the USA.

While I enjoy all types of photography it is still people that evoke the most fun to shoot. I show here a few snaps of boys in various stages of getting ready, preforming, and relaxing afterwards.
So lets see if I practice again what I preach….GET OUT AND SHOOT! I guess we will see by the number of posts to this blog…
